Mercury, The Tiny Wonder in our solar system.
Mercury is the smallest and closest planet to sun named after a Roman god. Mercury is the second hottest planet in the solar system next to venus. It is one of the rocky planets having solid surface that is covered with craters (surface similar like MOON).
It
experiences extreme temperature variations with daytime temperatures can reach
up to 430 degrees Celsius (800 degrees Fahrenheit), while nighttime
temperatures can drop to around -180 degrees Celsius (-290 degrees Fahrenheit).
Mercury
spins so slowly and takes 59 earth days to make one full rotation i.e a day on
mercury takes 59 earth days. As mercury is so close to the sun it takes 88
earth days to complete one rotation around the sun. This means if you lived
there you’d celebrate New Year’s every 3 months.
Mercury is one of the two planets that does
not have any moons..
Several
space missions have been sent to study the tiniest plant Mercury, including Mariner 10 and
MESSENGER (Mercury Surface, Space Environment, Geochemistry, and Ranging).
