Venus is often referred to as Earth's "sister planet" because it is similar in size, composition, and mass to Earth and named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty.
The
temperature on Venus can reach up to about 467 degrees Celsius (872 degrees
Fahrenheit), which is hotter than Mercury despite being farther from the Sun.
Much of the venus surface is covered by vast plains formed by volcanic
activity.
It takes
Venus longer to rotate once on its axis than to complete one orbit around the
Sun. That’s 243 Earth days to rotate once – the longest rotation of any planet
in the Solar System – and only 224.7 Earth days to complete an orbit of the
Sun.
On planet Venus, the Sun would rise in the west and set in the east, because Venus spins backward compared to Earth. Venus does not have any MOONS.
Exploring Venus: Several Space missions, such as NASA's Magellan spacecraft,
have used radar to map the surface and gather information about Venus's
geology.
